Bibelot South Melbourne Dessert Boutique

bibelot, south melbourne

on thursday evening my husband and i were invited to attend a celebratory party for the launch of melbourne’s newest dessert boutique. bibelot (pronounced bib-loh) is the brainchild of south melbourne icon chez dré, and just happens to sit right next door on coventry st, a stones throw from the south melbourne market… and it opens today! broadsheet defined it perfectly as a “patisserie, gelateria, espresso bar, chocolate shop, high-tea salon and a book shop all in one”. and it truly has to be seen to be believed.

the interior is simply opulent – green velvet couches, wooden shelves filled with beautiful gift ideas, greenery… and those never-ending glass cases of: cakes, petits gateaux, tarts, truffles, macrons.

you honestly feel like you’ve stepped onto the set of an alice-in-wonderland high tea. which is perfect, given that the high tea salon will be opening in june (queue hen’s teas, mother-daughter dates and girlie afternoons!). thursday night was simply magical – dessert buffets filled to the brim of every type of sweet treat you could ever want. it’s safe to say i indulged more than just a ‘little’.

the gelateria has a extensive selection of flavours, all made on site (including the cookie for the cookies and cream). the pistachio gelato was simply amazing – large chunks of actual pistachios in it. and the running tap of milk or dark chocolate to cover the top is drool-worthy.

ever since moving to melbourne chez dré has been one of my favourite brunch spots, so i am genuinely so excited to see them expand and wish them every success, and so grateful to have been invited to experience such a magical evening! i know its pretty certain i’ll be a regular 🙂

verdict: move over zumbo!

  1. All looks oh-so-scrumptious!! I wish they had it here in Sydney, it looks too stylish for Sydney.. So a trip to Melbourne would be awesome 😀
