beware… sugar overload ahead! today was sweet-tooth-saturday. you know those days when some salty bacon just won’t cut it? i was after some total comfort food today, and gas (as always) didn’t disappoint. if you’ve read my first post on gas you’ll know its a favourite of mine, a frequent saturday morning spent reading the paper or people watching followed by my weekly shop at the south melbourne market.
the staff were a little off their game today, it took more than ten minutes for me to even catch someone’s eye to request a menu, a bit disappointing when there were only about a dozen of us dining indoors, but after my first coffee was underway things began to return to the usual gas i’ve grown to expect.

anyway, where was i? back to sweet-tooth-saturday! the porridge was exceptional. creamy and perfectly cooked. there is nothing worse than gluggy over-cooked; or crunchy under-cooked oats – these were just right. i have to admit, i’ve never tried salted caramel sauce with porridge and was worried about the combination. but it was awesome! probably not something you should eat everyday (*calorie alert) but perfect on a chilly comfort-food craving morning.

next on the sugar-overload, was the french toast. certainly not the best presentation, but packed full of sweet goodness. the bread was egged and grilled just perfectly – soft and buttery on the inside – dusted with cinnamon sugar and topped with salted caramel and grilled banana. it was just what my taste buds were after this morning!

if you’re ever at gas, make sure you also take some of the pre-made meals, a salad or food box home with you – they are delicious and amazing!

verdict: comfort food indulgence
