if you’ve read my post on silo by joost, you’ll know that the hardware société has been on my wishlist for a little while. i’ve been attending a training course in the city the last couple of days, so thought that this morning i would get in a little bit early and (finally!) give it a try.
the great thing about heading there on a weekday and only a few minutes after they opened, was that unlike the last time when the line-up was well down hardware st, i walked straight into a lovely spot on the bench. the hardware société has a great feel! lovely soft lighting, a wall covered in pretty butterfly wallpaper. i love the hanging lights and the wall of teacups behind the counter. i’m sure when the place is packed, the atmosphere would be very different, but i was particularly enjoying the quiet and relaxed feel this morning before i headed off for a day of intense training.

the coffee was excellent. creamy texture and lovely flavour. and served with a cute and tasty little donut ball on the side.
baked eggs with ratatouille. there are two baked eggs options on the menu – served with a vegetarian ratatouille or spanish chorizo. this morning i went for the vegetarian option and it was delicious! eggs were beautifully cooked, and the eggplant, tomato and spinach added a lovely flavour. after skipping dinner the night before, i could’ve eaten two in a heartbeat!

the service was excellent this morning – staff were friendly, engaging and quick to take my order. i love the little cake display at the counter, and am looking forward to coming back again to try some other dishes and a cake or two!
verdict: loved!
